One Direction Rule MTV VMAs 2012 | Jamie Tuohy

One Direction proved that they have well and truly ‘arrived’ in America, after scooping three gongs at last night’s MTV Music Video Awards.

The band comprised of Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson beat off stiff competition, most notably from fellow teenybopper Justin Bieber, to walk away with Best New Artist, Best Pop Video and Most Share-Worthy Video for What Makes You Beautiful.

It was nothing short of a British invasion at last night’s awards, as Coldplay won Best Rock Video for Paradise, but were unable to attend, as they were performing in the Netherlands. Calvin Harris managed to add to Brittania’s domination last night, as he came away with Best Electronic Dance Music Video for his hit track Feels So Close.

Meanwhile, the most prestigious award of the night – Video of the Year went to Rihanna for her collaborative song with Calvin Harris, We Found Love.

The singer, who was sporting a new pixie hairstyle, kicked off the night’s proceedings with a performance of the winning track, which morphed into a medley, featuring Cockiness (I Love It) feat. A$AP and was seen kissing her ex Chris Brown on the lips when her name was announced as the winner.

Katy Perry, who also won a VMA last night – Best Art Direction for her Wide Awake video took to the stage to praise Rihanna’s performance and returned to present One Direction with their ‘Moonman’ gong for Best Pop Video.

Perry kissed each 1D member on the lips and Niall began the thank-yous by saying, “We’ve grown up watching this show and to even be here is an honour.”

It must have been a surreal moment for the Mullingar native and the band’s only Irish member to kiss Katy Perry on stage at LA’s Staples Centre, as she was the judge who had the deciding vote when Niall auditioned for the X Factor in Dublin back in 2010.

Since the X Factor, One Direction have gone on to become one of the biggest boybands in the world – making chart history back in March, when they became the first British boyband to debut at No.1 on the American Billboard 200 Album Chart.

Cheryl has sexy dreams about Rihanna and is reunited with Tre | Jamie Tuohy

Cheryl Cole has been dreaming of a certain someone lately and it’s not her rumoured new boyfriend Tre Holloway.

No, the Call My Name songstress has revealed that when she goes to sleep at night, it is Bajan beauty Rihanna who races through her mind.

Cheryl confessed that she has ‘sexy dreams’ about RiRi, saying “We had fun. You know, girly fun.”

Possibly the best news millions of guys (and girls by the sound of things) around the world have ever heard.

Cheryl and Rihanna’s affiliation for each other is well documented, with Rihanna previously telling Esquire magazine that,

“Cheryl Cole is hot. I would just like to watch her work. Preferably cleaning things on the floor. Picking up stuff on the floor. Bending over. She’s hot! I mean, literally…she’s so beautiful.”

Phwoaaaaar!

Meanwhile, Cheryl has been spotted heading out to dinner with Tre Holloway, who is reported to be the singer’s new boyfriend.

Looking gorgeous in a sultry leather ensemble, Cheryl left Japanese restaurant Sumosan in Mayfair, with Tre who looked extremely pleased with himself. I wonder why?

The Geordie singer was free from the sling she was sporting after her car accident with Will.i.am and looked stunning as ever as she emerged from the eatery.

All I’m saying is, Tre, you do realise you are going to be the envy of every guy on the planet – with Rihanna possibly joining you for some Rude Boy antics?!

RiRi Shuts Up and Drives With Oprah | Jamie Tuohy

When we mere mortals go on holidays, we have to make do with swelteringly hot public transport to get around, but when you’re Oprah, you can rely on your superstar besties to chauffer you on a private tour.

Yes, the media powerhouse that is Ms Winfrey was in Barbados to interview the Rude Boy songstress that is Rihanna – and she managed to get a chauffeur-driven guided tour of the 24-year-old singer’s hometown while she was at it.

Posting via the medium of social media, Rihanna uploaded this picture of the two to her Twitter account and Oprah entertained her Instagram followers by posting the same picture to her account, with the caption “Look who’s driving me around Barbados.” Nice if you can get it, O!

Oprah was in town to interview the Barbadian beauty for her chat show Oprah’s Next Chapter, which will be shown on OWN on August, 19.

Meanwhile, 58-year-old Oprah hit headlines earlier on in the week when she appeared on the cover of the September issue of her monthly magazine O, sporting her natural hair and was also papped on the set of her new movie The Butler with an array of different hairstyles.

Oprah, who will play Gloria Gaines in the movie, will star alongside Lenny Gravitz and Cuba Gooding Jr, in the movie which will tell the tale of a White House Butler, who has served eight different presidents over 30 years.

And we thought Oprah was going to take it easy when she retired from filming her eponymously titled chatshow. Not a chance! Go Oprah!

Rihanna’s New Fashion Show is a Star-Studded Style Extravaganza | Jamie Tuohy

Take the two most stylish ladies in Girls Aloud (that’s Cheryl and Nicola, in case you’re wondering), combine them with the experience of quirky designer Henry Holland and add two international superstars, in the form of Katy Perry and Rihanna and what have you got?

Well, I’m no mathematician, but to me, that equation looks like the recipe for an explosive new fashion show!

Styled to Rock is a new series which will be produced by and star Rihanna, who will oversee 12 competitors, all vying for a chance to dress the We Found Love hitmaker for one of her London concerts. Rihanna will be joined by Girls Aloud’s Nicola Roberts, fashion designer Henry Holland and stylist Lysa Cooper, all of whom will act as mentors on the reality show.

The show promises to be the most celeb-packed extravaganza EVER, with Nicola’s bestie and fellow bandmate Cheryl Cole joining the show to set a task for the 12 young designers. Rihanna has also exploited her contact list by getting California Girl Katy Perry to appear on the show to set the candidates a fashion assignment as well.

However, the stellar line up doesn’t end there! Oh no! Cheryl and Katy will join the ranks of Pixie Lott, The Saturdays, Tinchy Stryder, Little Mix, Katy B, Rizzle Kicks, The Scissor Sisters and Katy B, who will all appear as guests, setting challenges on the show.

The music has for the title sequence has been produced by Calvin Harris and hair stylist extraordinaire Nicky Clarke will oversee the looks each week before the designers showcase their offerings to the star-studded panel. YES, I’m out of breath as well!

A spokesman for the show said: ‘There’s no room for mistakes – these are very real briefs – no musical artist wants a fashion disaster on their hands in front of merciless photographers and harsh fashion critics.’

Nicola was delighted to work with Rihanna, saying she is “truly original” and said that her mate Cheryl was more than happy to be a part of the show, revealing, “She loves anything like that and I think the fact it was undiscovered talent and these fresh, young designers, she loves her clothes so it was just a given and she really enjoyed it.”

Lysa Cooper, Henry Holland and Nicola Roberts at the Styled to Rock Premiere

Okay, just like Beyoncé, “I don’t know much about ALGEBUHH (anyone else notice how she says algebra? LOVE IT), but this is surely a formula for a ratings winner?

Watch the 10 week long series on Sky Living HD from 14 August. See the first clip of the new series here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-_A6eKvqIs&feature=player_embedded

Rihanna sues former accountants – Jamie Tuohy

Rihanna has sued her former accountants, blaming them for losing tens of millions of dollars on her tours.

The superstar has filed the lawsuit under her real name, Robyn Fenty, alleging that her former accountants racked up tens of millions of dollars in losses and failed to trim expenses when her 2009 tour was making a loss. Image

The star hired New York based accountants Berdon LLP when she was an emerging star at the age of 16 and now, her attorneys are insisting that the singer’s accountants “engaged in misconduct and malfeasance” which were the reasons her 2009 “Last Girl on Earth Tour” made such a significant loss. As well as that, the suit charges Berdon LLP with “gross mismanagement” of the 24-year-old singer’s finances during her “Girl” tour.

As Rihanna was a minor when she hired them, she had no knowledge of the music industry and trusted the firm to act in her best interests. However, the company, who have refused to comment on the lawsuit are said to have reshuffled the star’s finances so they could take home “exorbitant” commissions without the singer knowing.

Rihanna’s lawyers are also blaming the accountants for an ongoing IRS audit of tax returns against the star. The audit is costing a significant amount of money, with Rihanna shelling out to fix their negligence and mismanagement.

Calling Cheryl…..Jamie Tuohy

Okay, I know I’m late to the party. Actually the party has probably ended and all that remains are the messy memories of a great night, but the good thing is, the music is still playing.

Obviously I’m talking about the first radio play of Cheryl Cole’s new single Call My Name. The Calvin Harris produced track is a totally new sound for the British pop princess and it is to be the first single released from her upcoming third album A Million Lights.

Image

Okay, Harris has certainly found a template that works and he isn’t letting go of his We Found Love remixes any time soon, but, hey, if it’s not broken and all that? The song is set to be a smash hit summer anthem, blending Calvin’s electro-rave energy with the feistiness and punch of Cheryl’s vocals. As Cheryl asks “how do ya think I feel when you call my name? You’ve got me confused by the way I change!”, the song becomes the ultimate Ibiza dance tune for the summer, with inflections of Rihanna-esque Caribbean tones.

The single will be released on June 10th , with the hotly anticipated video available to watch on Vevo from May 2nd! CANNOT WAIT!

Cheryl…I’m calling you!

After a week of Shakespearean essay related stress, the weekend came as nice opportunity for some much needed R&R, but any sense of peaceful serenity abandoned my little beating heart when I heard that Cheryl Cole has released the title of her new single.

Call My Name is Cheryl’s new track and it has been written and produced by Calvin Harris, who worked with Rihanna on her mammoth hit We Found Love.

Cheryl Cole on the set of her new video in LA

Looking like a 60′s inspired mermaid/sex kitten goddess, Cheryl has been filming the video for Call My Name in Los Angeles. With details of another track called Screw You being released last week, it looks like Cheryl’s forthcoming album will be packing all the sassy punch that the Geordie superstar has become synonymous with.

Call My Name will be a dance tune (we wouldn’t expect anything else) and I for one am super excited about its premiere on BBC Radio 1 on April 20th. With exams looming, I’ll be juggling Romanticism study with managing my expectations for Cheryl’s forthcoming song release. But she’s worth it! OH. SO. WORTH. IT.

Words fail me...WOW!

Later folks,

Jamie T.
