Robbie and Ayda welcome daughter Theodora Rose | Jamie Tuohy

Robbie Williams has become a dad at the age of 39, as his 33-year-old wife Ayda Field gave birth to a baby girl earlier today.

Robbie announced the arrival of Theodora Rose Williams, short for Teddy, on his blog this evening, saying,

BORN 3.33PM ON 18.9.12, 7LBS 4OZ…

This is the first child for the couple, who married two years ago, after first meeting in 2006. Robbie, who spent the last week on a promotional trail for his clothing line Farrell, and performed a string of solo gigs, admitted in Ireland on Friday, that his daughter was “very nearly born today” and he had a jet on stand-by in case Ayda went into labour.

Robbie Williams Launches FARRELL Clothing Line in Brown Thomas | Jamie Tuohy

Today I attended the AW12 launch of Robbie Williams’ clothing line, FARRELL in Brown Thomas’ Menswear Rooms and the singer offered an exquisite collection which is “deeply rooted in military themes” and sought inspiration from “utilitarian silhouettes infused with British-made fabrics.”

Farrell was launched in September 2011 and the collection was inspired by, and is created in homage to Williams’ Kilkenny-born grandfather, Jack Farrell, whom Robbie fondly calls “Jack the Giant Killer.” Robbie’s Head of Design is former Burberry Design Director, Ben Dickens and both men joined the ever-gorgeous Lorraine Keane today for a Q&A session in Brown Thomas, in front of Ireland’s fashion press.

Robbie was in fine form ahead of his gig at the O2 tonight and he spoke expertly about the clothing he claims he didn’t design, but rather “DJ’d.” The singer said, “I’m not going to lie to you and say that I’m a designer, I let Ben do that. The thing that I do for Farrell is DJ clothes.”

He was also quick to praise his design partner, Ben Dickens, saying, “Ben arrived, bringing optimism to my granddad’s clothing line. The more we talk, the more ideas we throw around – it’s exciting.”

Robbie also made reference to his grandfather’s attitude to the young star’s childhood, saying that Jack didn’t wanted him to be a ‘sissy’ and this is reflected in the collection. It’s a real manly clothing line, full of 1920s Gangster meets War hero. Robbie, perhaps the best marketer for his own brand, quipped, “It’s Savile Row tailoring, at high street prices.”

Lorraine asked him if he was ‘into fashion’ and he replied, “I’ve always been into clothes. I’ve always liked clothes. I don’t know if I have always been into fashion. I know what I like wearing. I know what I feel comfortable in and what makes me feel empowered.”

Robbie and Ben then took us through some of their favourite pieces from the Farrell A/W12 collection, which included a Military Control Trench and a pea coat. Key pieces from the collection also include Savile Row-inspired Chesterfield coats, quilted jackets and grandfather-collar shirts.

Every piece within the collection is designed to become a longstanding part of a man’s wardrobe, growing and evolving with the wearer over time and Robbie Williams’ AW12 Farrell collection is subtle, masculine and full of quiet integrity. It’s everything a guy wants from his clothing – and then some!

The Winners: GQ Men of the Year Awards 2012 | Jamie Tuohy

London’s Royal Opera House was the venue for the 2012 GQ Men of the Year awards last night, as the great and the good of the showbiz word descended on the venue for the annual ceremony.

Katherine Jenkins, Tinie Tempah, Lana Del Ray, Gary Barlow, David Gandy, Jessie J and a plethora of famous faces were out in force to celebrate the awards which recognise the contributions of various different men from the worlds of politics and entertainment.

Katherine Jenkins turned heads in a risqué Stella McCartney gown and despite the night being all about the gentlemen, her arrival caused a flurry of photographers to furiously snap her every move, as she emerged for the first time, in the wake of the allegations of her affair with David Beckham.

Katherine vehemently denied the reports and looked sensational in her black dress – even if cyclist Victoria Pendleton did have a near identical one on, albeit in a shorter version.

Amidst the high octane glamour of Jessie J, Katherine Jenkins and Kelly Brook et al, Lana Del Rey dazzled in a white satin dress and was awarded Woman of the Year.

Last year’s most stylish man and all round GQ favourite Tinie Tempah secured the award for Solo Artist of the Year, but relinquished his most Stylish Man of the Year accolade to X Factor presenter Dermot O’Leary.

Dermot (whose style I will coincidentally be blogging about in the next few days) scooped the Most Stylish prize for being, “the best-suited male on primetime television” and for his championing of British tailoring.

It was a good night for Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams, who both walked home with awards – Outstanding Achievement and Icon respectively.

Sir Salman Rushdie was crowned GQ’s Inspiration and the Legend accolade went to Sir Tom Jones.

Irish actor Michael Fassbender rounded off his successful year by scooping the Actor of the Year award, following his performances in movies such as Prometheus and Shame.

The awards, which were hosted by comedians Jimmy Carr and David Walliams, also saw Dolce and Gabbana winning Designer of the Year, Sacha Baron Cohen walking away with Comedian of the Year, following his movie The Dictator and Bradley Wiggins winning the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic teams won Team of the Year for 2012 and were represented by the likes of Mo Farah, Bradley Wiggins, Victoria Pendleton, Sir Chris Hoy.
